Within the Alliance, a space-farer will find any and all types of governments, since any Alliance planet is free to run itself as it sees fit. While the citizens are well- cared for by their patrons, there's no chance of improving one's status under the Imperial hierarchy (social status is based in inherited wealth and power), so the culture is a bit stagnant and stratified.įinally, we have the Alliance of Independent Systems, comprising several hundred star systems that were tired of being bullied and annexed and exploited by both the Feds and the Imperials, and so banded together for mutual protection and to maintain their sovereignty. Life under the Imperials is pretty sweet, too, with citizens of a particular area being governed by nobles, who in turn elect senators, who - in conjunction with the Emperor - guide the course of the Empire. Then there's the Empire, a feudalistic dictatorship which operates over 5,000 systems.

Corporations offer everything their employees need to get along in the vast federation, from jobs to health care to material goods.

Corporations greatly influence day-to-day life, and most people work for an interstellar mega-corp, identifying with their employers more than with a particular nationality or ethnicity. The Feds control over 6,000 star systems, so they're the biggest organized authority in space, and operate as a democratic republic. The oldest is the Federation, based around Earth and our solar system. There are three principal governments that control this immense area, and countless planets and star systems under their umbrella supervision. Let's just say it sounded like a cool idea for a tabletop setting to the happy people at Spidermind Games, and so here we are.ĮD:RPG is set a few centuries in the future, when mankind has spread out over a vast section of the galaxy. Since I've never played the video game, I'm going to completely ignore it and any influence it had on the rpg for the purposes of this review, since I have no basis to make comparisons. As the game progresses, players gain money and notoriety, and can afford upgrades to their starships, or can buy larger and better ships to continue their shooting and exploring. From what I gather, in the video game, players pilot starships around the constellations, shooting down other ships and exploring where no man has explored before. The Elite: Dangerous Role Playing Game is based on the Elite: Dangerous video game, which I'd never heard of.
